The same sentence, before and after

Most service agreements are written for lawyers and auditors. Easy Read keeps all of the meaning and drops the jargon that gets in the way of it.

When we checked 63 NDIS providers' complaints pages in October 2026, the typical one needed a Year 12 reading level.

A typical service agreement says

The Easy Read version says

We can end this agreement if a big rule is broken.

For the people who live in your homes

Residents sign agreements about where they live and who supports them. They have rights, and a way to speak up when something isn't right. None of that helps if they can't read the paperwork.

Easy Read puts it in words and pictures they can follow, so they can understand it, ask questions and make their own choices.

The new SIL rules are about understanding

Since 1 July 2026, supported independent living providers are registered and audited against new Practice Standards. They keep coming back to one idea: residents need key information in a way they can understand.

What makes a page Easy Read

This page is from our example guide. Here's what's going on.

  1. One idea per line

Each row says one thing. Most sentences are under 10 words.

  2. A picture for each idea

The picture carries the meaning for people who read slowly or not at all.

  3. Hard words in bold

Words like tenancy agreement are bold, and explained in a word list at the back.

  4. Nothing left out, nothing new added

Every right, timeframe and phone number comes straight from the original document.

How it works

It's all done by email. Most documents come back within 3 business days.

Documents we turn into Easy Read

Mostly the ones residents are handed when they move in, and the ones auditors ask about.

  • For SIL providers: service agreements, tenancy and house agreements, conflict of interest policies, house rules, moving in and moving out.
  • For any registered provider: complaints and feedback, privacy statements, rights and responsibilities, participant handbooks, welcome packs.
  • For SDA and support coordination: guides that explain a person's home, their plan and their options.

Not sure where to start?

Tell us which documents your residents get when they move in, and we'll suggest which ones to do first.

If you run SIL homes, the tenancy or house agreement is a good first choice. The SIL standards name it directly.
